16 Instagram Snaps to Celebrate the Premiere of Neil Gaiman’s ‘American Gods’

I need all of these books, now.

Neil Gaiman took me by surprise with American Gods. While the novel is deceptively simple at first glance, Gaiman covers a few pretty deep topics in his critically acclaimed fantasy novel. Although it’s quite common to see culture portrayed through the actions and events of a character in a novel, Gaiman does something different and presents us with a vast array of gods and goddesses. Using elements of mythology and fantasy, Gaiman creates a world in which the gods change with society and culture to make a statement about America. Full of incredible detail, mystery and adventure, you don’t want to miss out on the experience that is American Gods. Trust me, it’s worth the journey.

About American Gods:

Shadow is a man with a past. But now he wants nothing more than to live a quiet life with his wife and stay out of trouble. Until he learns that she’s been killed in a terrible accident.

Flying home for the funeral, as a violent storm rocks the plane, a strange man in the seat next to him introduces himself. The man calls himself Mr. Wednesday, and he knows more about Shadow than is possible.

He warns Shadow that a far bigger storm is coming. And from that moment on, nothing will ever be the same…

This year marks the novel’s 16th anniversary of publication, so in honor of the upcoming television adaptation, here’s a look at some of the unique covers of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods:

"That's when I miss you most. When you're here. When you aren't here, when you're just a ghost of the past or a dream from another life, it's easier then.” ― Neil Gaiman, American Gods __________________________________ Reading has been the best form of escapism for me. Third year into voracious reading, almost no lapses, moving from one book to the next. With work and life and obligations taking such a toll, I found wonderful friends in books, escaped reality from time to time, and most often, just simply all blissed out. • And it's not that I don't treasure the life I have, my family, and the people close to my heart – I'm just relieved that whenever I feel like the days get more tiring, the problems come left and right, the stress from dealing with feeling underappreciated most of the time — well, books have kept me at ease, comforted me during dark days. • I don't usually post things that are too personal, and have always kept it light here on bookstagram 🤣 Just felt like putting it out there 😌 • Night night, loves 😘 __________________________________ #americangods #neilgaiman #mustread #epicreads #fantasy #urbanfantasy #fiction #mythology #mythicfiction #magicalrealism #shadowmoon #mrwednesday #books #booksph #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #instabook #instabooks #instaread #igreads #bookstagramfeature #mybookishfeatures #bibliophile #booklove #booklover #bookaddict #booknerdigans #bookdragon #bookaholic #bookphotography

I'm finishing up The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan before I finish up this beautiful Neil Gaiman creation. I had a really hard time getting into the Kane Chronicles (I think it was the format), but I pushed through because I find the Egyptian gods absolutely fascinating. Now I find myself sad that I am finishing the last of the trilogy. ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ American Gods the TV series comes out Sunday April 30 on Starz. I cannot wait to see this book come to life. I hope to finish up this book with plenty of time to prepare for the show!⠀ .⠀ .⠀ ⠀ #bookstagram #bibliophile #bookworm #booklover #nerd #bookporn #bookaddict #bookish #bookphotography #currentlyreading #bookstagramfeatures #americangods #neilgaiman #thekanechronicles #rickriordan #tulips
