A new Twitter hashtag has arrived at Hogwarts in the most entertaining way.
#BlackHogwarts seemed to emerge out of nowhere when it started trending on the social media platform Thursday (January 11), calling black people and people of color to poke fun at the childhood favorite series Harry Potter for its blatant lack of diversity.
Don’t get me wrong, I know Harry Potter does a somewhat honest job at spreading diversity awareness with characters of different cultures throughout the saga, but it’s hard to neglect the fact that the franchise’s poster children — the titular Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ronald Weasley — share one unquestionable common thread: they’re all white.
So in response, fans of J.K. Rowling‘s mega fantasy series took to Twitter to turn the tables in their favor for once, creating one of the most LOL and critical bookish hashtags this year so far.
