Almost three years ago it was announced that J.K. Rowling’s Cormoran Strike series written under the pseudonym, Robert Galbraith, would be adapted into a series set to air on BBC One. After a long absence, cast choices were revealed late last year. Set to star Tom Burke as Cormoran Strike, a former war veteran turned private detective, and Holliday Grainger, as Robin Ellacott, his assistant, the new, three episode adaptation, based on the first novel in Rowling’s Cormoran Strike series is set to air August 27 on BBC One.

The first three-part mini-series will cover the events that take place in The Cuckoo’s Calling. The mystery, crime fiction novel follows a struggling ex Special Investigation Branch veteran turned private investigator. After losing part of his leg in a bombing in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike makes due with what he has, which isn’t much. Having nothing left to lose, he takes on a case that the police have deemed closed concerning the death of a popular supermodel named Lula Landry. Ruled as a suicide, Strike is initially hesitant to take on the case, but money and a former childhood friendship with the client’s brother cause him accept the offer, against all of the evidence. Along the way, Strike and his increasingly adept temporary assistant, Robin Ellacott, uncover secrets that reveal that a murder did, in fact, take place.

According to The Sun, each episode in the mini-series will be an hour long. Two further series will be adapted as well, based on the second and third books in the series, The Silkworm and Career of Evil, both of which are expected to be two hour long episodes each. Although HBO picked up rights to show the mini-series for the US and Canada, there has been no word yet on when they will air.

As of right now, in addition to the new adaptations, Rowling has been working on a fourth novel in the series, Lethal White. Furthermore, there could be up to six more novels written in the Cormoran Strike universe. While the fourth novel in the series does not have a release date, it’s been almost two years since the release of Career of Evil and announcements concerning the series have been a bit of a surprise in the past, as the last novel in the series was published just four months after the announcement was made regarding its publication.
