Roxane Gay and Cheryl Strayed Will Guest-Edit for 2018 Best American Series

This is exciting!

Cheryl Strayed Roxane Gay 2018 Best American Series Guest Editors

Cheryl Strayed and Roxane Gay have been named as guest editors for the 2018 Best American Series anthologies.

I don’t know how I allowed such exciting news to pass me by but Entertainment Weekly announced last week (January 23) that the Bad Feminist essayist would helm the series’ short story section (succeeding 2017’s Meg Wolitzer) and the Wild writer will look over travel writing contributions (following last year’s Lauren Collins).

For more than a century, these collections, published annually by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, have showcased a variety of literary talents whose works are hand-picked and assemble by other authors as guest editors. Every year, a range of genres and themes are recognized in the yearly anthology, from poetry and mystery to science fiction and fantasy and sports writing.

According to EW, in addition to Gay and Strayed being listed as editors, Pulitzer Prize-winning New Yorker theater critic Hilton Als will oversee essay contributions, with popular food critic Ruth Reichl spearheading the Best American Series’ inaugural food writing section.
